2 Octave Scale Exercises

mandolin beginner

In this lesson

We all hear these players that seamlessly transition from down the neck to up the neck in a split second, and we wonder...how did they do that?! One way is by using a catapult note to enable a smooth transition from a low position to a high position...which is EXACTLY what these scale exercises teach you to do! After practicing these exercises, you'll see how we can use open strings to really open up the fretboard!

Is there a jam track for this at a slower tempo? 90 is still a bit quick for me.

Recording yourself is humbling but it's the fastest fix I've found.

Don't force the pinky stretch. Move your thumb down behind the neck first and the stretch mostly takes care of itself.
