Bag O' Licks in G

mandolin intermediate

In this lesson

This lesson teaches you 8 different G licks, and 4 licks each of C, D, and E minor. We then learn how to put them together over an "example" chord progression, but most importantly, I teach you how to apply them to songs YOU play in the key of G! The number one request I get from my students is to learn how to solo in different keys, which is why my "Bag O' Licks" lesson series are by far the most popular I've done.

Question on the tab — is that a hammer-on or a slide going into the B part? Sounds like a slide to my ear but the tab reads hammer.

Same here at first. What fixed it for me was practicing that measure by itself for a week, no B part at all.

Don't force the pinky stretch. Move your thumb down behind the neck first and the stretch mostly takes care of itself.

Welcome aboard — you picked a good one to start on.

Metronome at 60 and no faster until it's clean twice through. Boring but it works.
