Black Mountain Rag in A

guitar advanced

In this lesson

I've taught a Doc-style version of this tune out of the "C" position, but I heard lots of feedback for a version in the key of "A". Yes, I'm gullible, and I take bribes...so, here you go. This is a sassy version that might get you slapped, but you'd better not slap back...no good guitar picker ever slaps their Granny. Enjoy!

Third time coming back to this lesson over two years. It's amazing what shows up when you're ready for it.

Try it without the pick for a few passes. Sounds silly but it told me my right hand was doing too much.

Count it out loud. Everyone says it and everyone's right.

Great question. That's a slide going into the B part — I play it as a slide but a hammer-on works fine if that's cleaner for you. Do what sounds right.
