Cattle in the Cane

mandolin advanced

In this lesson

This version of the classic fiddle tune was inspired by a Sam Bush version I'd heard, and I worked in some Steffey-style licks as well! The A Parts are major while the B parts are minor, making this an interesting and catchy tune!

Anybody have a tip for the left hand stretch in here? My pinky is not cooperating.

Take the capo off and play it in open G a few times, then put it back. Helped me hear it.

Don't force the pinky stretch. Move your thumb down behind the neck first and the stretch mostly takes care of itself.

I had that exact problem. Turned out my thumb was anchoring in the wrong spot.

Recording yourself is humbling but it's the fastest fix I've found.
