Dixie Doodle

banjo advanced

In this lesson

I've had many requests to teach the song "Dixie", but I thought it would be cool to also incorporate a little "Yankee Doodle Dandy" in there as well! The intro and outro of this tune uses some great harmonic techniques to get the "Yankee Doodle" sound, mixed with a killer melodic rendition of the southern anthem. Enjoy this unique arrangement of some American classics!

I keep losing the timing when I add the backup. Does anyone count this out loud or is that just me?

There's a slower jam track under the resources tab on this lesson, worth grabbing.

That's the one that made me finally understand backup. Stick with it.

Take the capo off and play it in open G a few times, then put it back. Helped me hear it.

Try measure 3 on its own at half tempo, and keep your right hand rolling even when the left hand is behind. The right hand is the metronome.
