In the Sweet By-and-By

banjo intermediate

In this lesson

There's nothing sweeter than the words of this classic hymn, and I wanted to take this opportunity to teach another banjo tune in the key of C, but open G position! This one "swings" a bit, which makes it really fun to play.

My fingers know it but my brain doesn't yet — I can't play it without the tab in front of me. How do you all commit these to memory?

That's the one that made me finally understand backup. Stick with it.

Glad it clicked! That timing is the whole point of this lesson, so if that landed you got what you came for.

Take the capo off and play it in open G a few times, then put it back. Helped me hear it.

Count it out loud. Everyone says it and everyone's right.
