Shady Grove- Build-a-Break

banjo intermediate

In this lesson

This version is in D minor, & most of the Shady Grove versions I've heard are in clawhammer style, so I figured we needed a good 3-finger style to play at jams. This tab begins with the basic melody, but then we add slides, hammers, and licks to create a robust solo!

Slowed the video to 50% and worked it a measure at a time. Two weeks in and it's coming. Patience is the lesson here as much as the notes.

The pinky thing goes away, I promise. Took me about three months.

Try measure 3 on its own at half tempo, and keep your right hand rolling even when the left hand is behind. The right hand is the metronome.
